This dish is a regular favorite in my kitchen because it is so easy to pull together on a busy weeknight. It takes humble ingredients like ground beef and cabbage and turns them into a meal that feels warm and comforting.

My best tip for this recipe is to make sure you slice your cabbage into bite sized pieces so it cooks down perfectly with the meat. If you like a little extra heat, feel free to add a pinch of red pepper flakes when you sautΓ© the vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes, 14.5 ounces
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

8Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until it is browned, breaking it up with a spoon as you go.

  3. 3

Stir in the onion and bell pepper and cook for about five minutes until they soften.

  4. 4

Add the garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

Stir in the chopped cabbage and the diced tomatoes with their juices.

  6. 6

Add the soy sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  7. 7

Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.

  8. 8

Remove the lid and cook for another few minutes if you prefer less liquid in the pan, then serve warm.

Tips

This dish tastes even better the next day after the flavors have had time to meld in the fridge. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. You can serve this over a scoop of fluffy white rice or eat it on its own for a lighter meal.
