There is something truly special about the smell of brown butter hitting the pan. These cookies are a favorite in my kitchen because they have a chewy texture and that wonderful nutty flavor from the maple glazed pecans.

Adding crushed pretzel crisps gives them a nice salty bite that keeps you coming back for more. They are perfect for holiday trays or just a cozy afternoon treat with a cup of coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons maple extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 cup pretzel crisps, roughly crushed

10Instructions

  1. 1

Cook the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, then set it aside to cool slightly.

  2. 2

Toss the pecans with maple syrup in a small skillet over medium heat for about 3 minutes until toasted, then let them cool completely.

  3. 3

Whisk the cooled brown butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar in a large bowl until smooth.

  4. 4

Add the egg, egg yolk, and maple extract to the butter mixture and stir well.

  5. 5

Mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt until a soft dough forms.

  6. 6

Gently fold in the maple pecans and the crushed pretzels.

  7. 7

Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes to help the flavors settle.

  8. 8

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  9. 9

Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are golden.

  10. 10

Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack.

Tips

Store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days to keep them soft. If you want them to stay fresh longer, you can freeze the unbaked dough balls and bake them straight from frozen for a few extra minutes.
