There is something truly comforting about a warm cobbler when the weather turns chilly. This version uses a mix of cranberries and cherries to create a bright, jammy filling that pairs perfectly with the soft, spiced biscuit topping. It is a wonderful dessert for holiday gatherings or a quiet weekend at home.

My best tip is to use fresh or frozen cherries that have been pitted to save time. Make sure you don't overmix the biscuit dough, as keeping it a little bit loose is what makes the topping stay light and fluffy in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pitted sweet cherries, fresh or frozen
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk

8Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, toss the cherries and cranberries with the granulated sugar, cornstarch, and orange zest until well coated. Pour this mixture into a 9 inch baking dish.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  4. 4

Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

  5. 5

Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.

  6. 6

Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough over the fruit mixture.

  7. 7

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the fruit filling is bubbling and the biscuit topping is golden brown.

  8. 8

Let the cobbler cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Tips

Serve this warm with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. If you have leftovers, keep them covered in the fridge for up to three days and warm them in the oven before serving.
