Easy Juicy Turkey In a Bag
This simple method uses an oven bag to lock in moisture, giving you a perfect turkey without any constant basting.
easy.enzo81.xyzCooking a large turkey for a holiday can feel like a big task, but this oven bag trick makes it so much easier. The bag holds in all the steam and juices, so you end up with tender meat every single time, and you do not have to worry about basting it every thirty minutes.
I love this method because it saves so much stress on a busy day. It keeps the oven cleaner, and the drippings collected in the bottom of the bag are perfect for making a rich, flavorful gravy while the turkey rests.
Ingredients
- 1 turkey, 12 to 18 pounds, fully thawed
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 turkey size oven roasting bag
8Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F and move the oven rack to the lower position.
- 2
Add the tablespoon of flour to your oven bag, shake it around to coat the inside, and place the bag into a deep roasting pan.
- 3
Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey, pat the bird dry with paper towels, and tie the legs together with kitchen twine while tucking the wing tips under.
- 4
In a small bowl, mix together the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- 5
Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, including inside the cavity, then coat the outside evenly with your herb and spice mixture.
- 6
Carefully place the turkey into the oven bag, seal it with the provided tie, and cut six small slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape.
- 7
Roast the turkey until a meat thermometer reaches 165°F in the thickest parts of the breast, thigh, and wing.
- 8
Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest inside the bag for 15 minutes before carefully opening the bag and carving.
Tips
Store any leftover turkey in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Use the saved pan juices to make a quick gravy by whisking them with a little flour and broth on the stovetop.
