There is nothing better than coming home to the smell of dinner already waiting for you. This honey garlic chicken is inspired by classic takeout flavors, and it uses tender chicken thighs that fall apart perfectly after a few hours of slow cooking.

It is the perfect solution for busy weeknights when you want something satisfying without standing over a stove. My favorite tip is to make sure you use freshly minced garlic rather than the jarred version because it really makes the sauce pop with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water

8Instructions

  1. 1

Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of your slow cooker.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, and onion powder.

  3. 3

Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken until it is well coated.

  4. 4

Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours until the chicken is tender.

  5. 5

Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.

  6. 6

In a small cup, stir the cornstarch and water together to create a slurry.

  7. 7

Pour the slurry into the liquid remaining in the slow cooker and stir well to thicken the sauce.

  8. 8

Add the shredded chicken back into the slow cooker and toss to coat it in the thickened sauce before serving.

Tips

Serve this over a bed of fluffy steamed white rice with a side of roasted broccoli. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat them gently on the stovetop.
