This cilantro lime sauce is my absolute favorite way to add a fresh kick to dinner. It is super creamy, bright from the lime, and has just enough spice from the roasted jalapeños to keep things interesting.

I spent some time perfecting the balance of ingredients to match that famous chain style. It is such a simple way to bring a restaurant quality flavor to your home cooking, and it tastes amazing on burrito bowls or tacos.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, packed
  • 1 fresh jalapeño, roasted and seeded
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

5Instructions

  1. 1

Roast the jalapeño over an open gas flame or under your oven broiler until the skin is charred and blistered.

  2. 2

Once the pepper is cool enough to handle, remove the charred skin and the seeds.

  3. 3

Place the roasted jalapeño into a food processor or blender along with the sour cream, cilantro, lime juice, cumin, salt, and garlic.

  4. 4

Pulse the mixture until the cilantro is finely chopped and the sauce is smooth and creamy.

  5. 5

Taste and add a little more salt or lime juice if you prefer, then serve immediately or chill in the fridge.

Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. This sauce tastes best if you let it sit for an hour before serving so the flavors can mingle. It is perfect for drizzling over grilled chicken or roasted vegetables.
