Baked jerk wings are my go to recipe whenever I need a crowd pleasing snack for game day or a backyard party. They get perfectly crispy in the oven without the hassle of a deep fryer, and that sticky sauce is just impossible to resist.

My top tip for extra crunch is to pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels before seasoning them. If there is any moisture on the skin, they will steam instead of getting that beautiful golden crisp we all love.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup store bought or homemade jerk barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: chopped fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish

8Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.

  2. 2

Pat the wings completely dry using paper towels and place them in a large mixing bowl.

  3. 3

Toss the wings with the vegetable oil, baking powder, salt, and pepper until every piece is evenly coated.

  4. 4

Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they do not touch each other.

  5. 5

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until the skin is dark golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

Remove the wings from the oven and transfer them to a clean bowl while they are still hot.

  7. 7

Pour the jerk barbecue sauce over the wings and toss well to coat them completely.

  8. 8

Serve immediately with an extra side of sauce for dipping.

Tips

Serve these wings with cool ranch or blue cheese dressing to balance the spice. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days, and reheat them in the oven to bring back the crispiness.
