Classic Homemade Apple Cider
This warm and spiced apple cider is the ultimate drink for crisp autumn days.
easy.enzo81.xyzThere is something truly special about the smell of apples and cinnamon simmering on the stove when the weather turns cold. It is a simple recipe that feels like a hug in a mug and always makes the house smell wonderful.
You can easily customize this by adding more or less sweetener depending on how tart your apples are. I recommend using a mix of apple varieties to get the best depth of flavor in every sip.
Ingredients
- 10 large apples, quartered
- 1 orange, sliced
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 tablespoon whole allspice
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- Water to cover
8Instructions
- 1
Place the quartered apples and orange slices into a large pot.
- 2
Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice into the pot.
- 3
Pour in enough water to cover the fruit by at least two inches.
- 4
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- 5
Simmer for about two hours until the apples are very soft.
- 6
Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release all the juices.
- 7
Simmer for another hour then strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher.
- 8
Stir in the brown sugar until it dissolves completely and serve warm.
Tips
Store your leftover cider in a glass jar in the refrigerator for up to one week. You can reheat it on the stove with a fresh cinnamon stick for an extra cozy touch. If you have guests, add a splash of bourbon or rum to their mugs.
