Cheesy Philly Ground Beef Pasta Bake
This dish takes everything you love about a Philly cheesesteak and turns it into a comforting pasta dinner.
easy.enzo81.xyzI love a good cheesesteak, but sometimes I want something I can just scoop out of a big baking dish. This recipe is perfect for those busy weeknights when you need something filling that the whole family will actually eat without complaining.
The secret is making sure you get a nice brown on the beef and veggies before mixing them with the pasta. It adds so much flavor to the creamy sauce and keeps things from tasting flat.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 12 ounces cavatappi pasta
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
10Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease a large baking dish.
- 2
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta for about two minutes less than the package says so it stays firm.
- 3
While the water boils, cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until it is fully browned.
- 4
Add the diced peppers, onions, and mushrooms to the skillet with the beef and cook until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
- 5
Drain any extra grease from the pan and season the mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- 6
In a separate small pot, melt the butter and whisk in the flour for about one minute to make a quick roux.
- 7
Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly until the sauce thickens up and becomes smooth.
- 8
Stir the provolone cheese into the sauce until it is completely melted.
- 9
Mix the cooked pasta, beef mixture, and cheese sauce together in a large bowl and then pour it into your baking dish.
- 10
Top the whole thing with the shredded pepper jack cheese and bake for 20 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden.
Tips
You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. When you reheat it, add a splash of milk to the bowl to keep the pasta from getting too dry in the microwave.
